The WorldWide Telescope (WWT) Academic Development Kit, January 2009 release, contains two utilities that enable people to convert their astronomical images, panoramas, sky surveys, and planetary textures to a format that can be read by WWT and shared with other WWT users. The tool also produces thumbnails and WTML files. The WWT StudyChopper Tool enables users to provide photographs of small parts of the sky, such as a high-resolution image of the Crab Nebula, and enter appropriate coordinate information and metadata. It creates image pyramids of the photographs, thumbnails, and WTML files. Once the output image pyramids and thumbnails are hosted by the user’s servers and the WTML files are made available to others, anyone with access to the WTML files will be able to browse the images in WWT.

The Name: macro creates an object in the NewMacro2 object. The Usage: macro gives a description of how it’s used. For example, if you want to create an object that will copy an image from one place to another and then delete it, you would give this macro the name, copyImageMacro and the usage, delete image.

You need to create three new macros, ObjectMacro, DeleteImageMacro and CopyImageMacro. The only difference between the three macros will be the parameters that they use.

CopyImageMacro

This macro will copy the image in the srcMacro into the same place in the destMacro. The usage for this macro is the same as the usage for the Usage macro.

DeleteImageMacro

This macro will delete the image in the destMacro. The usage for this macro is the same as the usage for the Usage macro.

ObjectMacro

This macro will create a new object in the destMacro that will store the copy of the image in the srcMacro. The usage for this macro is the same as the usage for the Usage macro.

Toast-format images are created using the TOAST format, a 2D spherical projection that WWT uses. The world coordinate system (WCS) used in WWT is expressed in terms of latitude, longitude, and polar angle. WWT uses a more compact representation of the WCS, called the WWT-CSC. In this scheme, latitude and longitude are stored in the two digits of the WWT-CSC; and the polar angle, used to resolve negative and positive angles, is stored in the third digit. This scheme is based on the WWT-CSC scheme proposed by Karampelas, Levay, and de Brujin.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
